Most  properties built  after 1920s have cavities, the external walls are constructed of two brick or brick & block. A cavity is normally 40-50mm or wider. The purpose  of having a cavity is to stop any water seeping through to the internal walls a cavity also allows water to drain away.

If you are having random damp patches on the internal walls this could be a sign of incorrectly fitted cavity wall insulation or wet insulation. Water ingress into the cavities can damage the fitted insulation causing the insulation to become saturated over a period of time, if this is the case the insulation will need removing as it cannot dry out.

Removing / Extracting cavity wall insulation is a dusty job as we need to drill 22mm holes into the mortar beds. This can create a lot of dust, we also use high pressured air to blow the problematic insulation out from the cavities. After the job has been completed the technician will make good the work area.

Removing cavity wall insulation will reinstate the cavities allowing them to work as they was designed to (Remember houses are built with cavities for a reason). In the UK its estimated 3.2 million homes are having issue’s with retro fitted cavity wall insulation. This can be due to the properties not being suitable, or shoddy workmanship as a result it can cause horrendous damp/Condensation issue·s throughout the property.

For an average semi detached house fitted with wool cavity insulation we would estimate 1-2 day’s but normally the job is completed in a full day.

Unfortunately at the moment no government grants are available for the removal of problematic cavity wall insulation. If you decide to remove insulation make sure the company is accredited by OSCAR ON SITE.

The answer is no. On the day of the extraction we will carry out afew checks internal & external before the works start, this is to
make sure everything is safe before we begin. We will drill into the mortar beds around the bricks and remove a series of bricks around the base of the property to access the cavities. On completion of the works all drill holes will be re-painted and any bricks will be reset back in place. We use a range of colour dyes for mortar and render.

If you are in our area the cost of an inspection fee is normally free of charge, however if you are are out of our area a charge may be put in place, this is to cover our time and fuel cost but should you have the insulation removed the inspection fee will be taken of the overall price.

On the day of the inspection one of our team members will arrive on site at the time given, all ID’s will be worn as well as shoe/boot covers.
The inspector will need to come inside the property just to look at the issues on the internal walls, after this has been completed the inspection will continue outside were we will need to drill a few small holes this will allow us to look at the cavity wall insulation.
We normally estimate 20-45 minutes for an inspection to be completed depending on the size of the property.
